Lottery
The DCPS Pre-School, Pre-K and Out-of-Boundary Lotteries take place from late January and to late February. The results are available to the public in early March.

Applicants who receive a seat in the lottery and wish to accept it should return the “Intent to Enroll” form by April 1. Such families must also return all enrollment forms in early May to secure their seat. (Families of in-boundary students in K-5 must also return an "intent to enroll" form.)

Enrollment and Re-enrollment
Once you have returned the “Intent to Enroll” form the next step is to return all enrollment forms to secure your child’s seat. The enrollment packet includes the following forms:

  • DCPS enrollment form
  • Home Language Survey
  • FERPA Notification
  • Release of Student Directory Information
  • Authorization for Release of Income Eligibility (providing information is optional)
  • Medicaid Consent Form
  • Student Health Packet
These forms are mailed to families in early March. You may also download them from the DCPS website. All enrollment forms must be received by May 1. Failure to complete any of the above steps may result in the loss of your child’s seat. Families with students currently enrolled at Bancroft must follow this process every year.

Age Requirements for Pre-School, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Your child must meet legal requirements for age eligibility in order to enroll at DCPS:
  • Preschool: Your child must turn three (3) years of age on or before September 30th to be eligible for preschool.
  • Pre-kindergarten: Your child must turn four (4) years of age on or before September 30th to be eligible for pre-kindergarten.
  • Kindergarten: Your child must turn five (5) years of age on or before September 30th to be eligible for kindergarten.
